Do socioeconomic disadvantages persist into old age? Self-reported morbidity in a 29-year follow-up of the Whitehall Study.

摘要: OBJECTIVES: This study examined (1) the relation of employment grade in middle age to self-reported poor health and functional limitations old (2) whether socioeconomic status at approximately time retirement modifies differentials age. METHODS: Survivors Whitehall Study cohort men were resurveyed. Respondents aged 40 69 years when they originally screened 1967 1970. RESULTS: Compared with senior administrators, clerical or manual (low-grade) jobs had quadruple odds physical performance age, triple general health, double mental disability. At most, 20% these differences explained by baseline risk factors. Men who moved from low grades before less likely than those remained have health. CONCLUSIONS: Socioeconomic is associated morbidity
