Womens employment makes unions more stable, if the male partners contribute to the unpaid household work

摘要: A new generation of studies has called into question standard microeconomic predictions a positive association between women’s economic independence and union dissolution, suggests that it is necessary to include information about both partners’ contributions paid unpaid work when conducting empirical tests the impact employment on stability. In this study, we follow strand research use data couples from 2003 2007 waves Italian “Family Social Subject” survey, with aim investigating whether how gender division labor channels causal disruption. Utilizing techniques mediation analysis, suggest does not have negative effect per se stability, becomes detrimental stability only if male partner’s contribution scarce. We found dissolution 70% or more housework performed by women.
