摘要: As researchers working in Detroit, we have become sensitized to the rhetoric often deployed describe city, especially vocabulary of monstrosity. While providing powerful images Detroit’s problems, insidious monster narratives also obscure genuine understanding city. In this article, first discuss city Detroit itself, describing its place American and global social imaginary as a product particular history. Second, consider concept monstrosity, particularly it applies urban environments. Following this, relate several prevalent or popular categories descriptions considering what each one reveals implies about state landscape people. Finally, how monstrosity may be engaged utilized serve alternative ends.
