Recommendations for patient engagement in guideline development panels: A qualitative focus group study of guideline-naïve patients

摘要: Background Patient and consumer engagement in clinical practice guideline development is internationally advocated, but limited research explores mechanisms for successful engagement. Objective To investigate the perspectives of potential patient/consumer representatives on topics pertaining to including group composition barriers facilitators Setting participants Participants were guideline-naive volunteers programs designed link community members academic with diverse ages, gender, race, degrees experience interacting health care professionals. Methods Three focus groups one key informant interview conducted analyzed using a qualitative descriptive approach. Results recommended small, engaging multiple stakeholders no prior relationships each other or professional panel members. No consensus was achieved ideal balance stakeholders. Pre-meeting reading/training an identified contact person described as keys early engagement; skilled facilitators, understandable speech language, established soliciting patient opinions suggested enhance at meetings.
