摘要: A hairpin-like secondary structure in the intercistronic region between genes J and F of bacteriophages, phi X174 G4 has been postulated to act as a transcription termination signal. We analyzed vivo transcripts both phages mutants derived from them with modifications this hairpin structure. The appeared fall into two groups respect stability mRNA species. Class 1 showed an profile very similar parental strain, whereas class 2 lacked major species normally terminated near J-F region. behaved like X174. Analysis revealed that messages specific for upstream turn over more rapidly than mutants. In mutants, decay rates are but not identical those wild-type strain. These data suggest role nucleotide sequence within degradation. They further imply occurs downstream site.
