摘要: Wetlands have the capacity to retain nitrogen and phosphorus are thereby often considered a viable option for improving water quality at local scales. However, little is known about cumulative influence of wetlands outside floodplains, i.e., non-floodplain (NFWs), on surface watershed Such evidence important meet global, national, regional, goals effectively comprehensively. In this critical review, we synthesize state science watershed-scale effects NFWs nutrient-based (nitrogen, phosphorus) quality. We further highlight where knowledge limited in research area challenges garnering information. On basis previous wetland literature, develop emerging concepts that assist advancing linking nutrient conditions. Finally, ask, "Where do go from here?" address question using 2-fold approach. First, demonstrate, via example model simulations, how explicitly considering modeling changes predicted yields receiving waters-and may potentially affect future management decisions. Second, outline recommendations will improve our scientific understanding downstream
