Luminous arcs in clusters of galaxies

摘要: Observations are reported of what appears to be a new class spatially coherent extragalactic features having, in the two most compelling known examples, following joint properties: location clusters galaxies, narrow arclike shape, enormous apparent length, and situation center curvature toward both cD galaxy gravity cluster. The principal available facts concerning arcs presented variety interpretations briefly discussed. weight evidence seems favor interpretation that these images more distant objects produced by gravitational field intervening clusters. 24 references.
