摘要: Porins are passive channels in the outer membranes of Gram-negative bacteria, mitochondria and chloroplasts. The high resolution crystal structure a bacterial porin showed features from which functional properties can be derived. In particular, revealed that there exists strong transversal electric field across size-defining pore facilitates permeation polar solutes while excluding nonpolar ones.
