Scavengers' contribution in solid waste management sector in Gaza Strip, Palestine.

摘要: This study deals with the assessment of role and potential contribution of-valuable recyclable items-waste pickers (scavengers) in overall recycling sector solid waste management Gaza Strip, Palestine. The analytical descriptive approach was applied this to achieve goal. A special questionnaire designed record views activities a statistically representative sample scavengers, determine their socio-economic conditions, job satisfaction level, management. Together that, legal issues arising from activity are investigated conducted interviews stakeholders/officials highly contributed this. results showed that scavengers mostly men, working informally for themselves, do not belong any official body or informal local association, yet calculated be 1-7.7% as far diversion rate is considered. According processed data, 34.1% them collecting community bins distributed along streets random dumpsites, 15.1% dumps only, 12.7% addition transfer stations. monetary outcome less than NIS 500 (New Israeli Shekels-NIS) monthly approximately 72% them. Taken into consideration 91% originating bad economic status, aforementioned income-however low-is considered important live-hood. also 93% dissatisfied due mainly district residence, negative attitude receipt by members, low selling price materials. analysis stepping stone scavengers' incorporation sector, providing orientation on-the-job training, government support through tax incentives private which recommended developing countries. Such will certainly lead further development wide range circular economy pattern application locally, elevation financial/life status.
