摘要: A portion of the genus Scolecenchelys Ogilby 1897, gymnota species group, is taxonomically revised. The S. group defined as having dorsal-fin origin located posterior to level anus and consists following 10 species: aoki (Jordan Snyder 1901) (Japan Korea), australis (Macleay 1881) (southern Australia New Zealand), brevicaudata sp. nov. (Philippines), chilensis (McCosker 1970) (Desventuradas Islands Juan Fernandez Islands, off Chile), fuscogularis Hibino, Kai Kimura 2013 (Bleeker 1857) (tropical area Pacific Indian oceans, excluding Red Sea), iredalei (Whitley 1927) oceans), laticaudata (Ogilby 1897) profundorum Parin 1995) (the Nazca Ridge), robusta (southwestern Ocean). newly regarded a valid species, but Muraenichthys erythraeensis Bauchot Mauge 1980, japonicus Machida Ohta 1993, tasmaniensis McCulloch 1911 known formerly are junior synonyms iredalei, aoki, australis, respectively. detailed examination generic status “Scolecenchelys” acutirostris (Weber de Beaufort 1916) required.
