摘要: Evidence was presented that successful participation in augmentative communication intervention can foster developmental changes extend beyond the targeted effect. Ten persons with severe mental retardation were assigned matched pairs to a lexigram condition (graphic symbols) or control (social stimulation). A coding system, developed assess pre- versus postintervention performance four domains, applied videotapes of each subject dyadic interaction. The 3 subjects who successfully acquired lexigrams exhibited attention, intentional communication, and sociability; other improved only sociability. Supporting results obtained using an abbreviated system. Application systems additional populations interventions would clarify how broadly generalize.
