摘要: A retrospective study to investigate the psychosocial sequelae of a second-trimester termination pregnancy (TOP) for fetal abnormality (FA) is described. After appropriate consent was obtained, 84 women and 68 spouses were visited 2 years after event asked complete an extensive questionnaire. Most couples reported state emotional turmoil TOP. There differences in way coped with this confusion feelings. about 20 per cent still complained regular bouts crying, sadness, irritability. Husbands increased listlessness, loss concentration, irritability up 12 months In same period, there marital disharmony which separated while one couple obtained divorce. These problems could be attributed lack synchrony grieving process. Confusing conflicting feelings led social isolation communication. Difficulties coming terms not found linked type or religious beliefs but related parental immaturity, inability communicate needs, deep-rooted self-esteem before pregnancy, supporting relationships, secondary infertility. Suggestions improved management are given.
