摘要: Abstract Governments subsidize the deployment of solar photovoltaics (PV) because PV is deployed for societal purposes. About seven thousand megawatts were in 2009 and over 10,000 are expected 2010. Yet this too slow to strongly affect energy environmental challenges. Faster slowed perceived be costly. Classic economic evaluations would put electricity range 15–50 c/kWh, depending on local sunlight system size. But has an unusual, overlooked value: systems can last a very long time with almost no operating costs, much like, e.g., Hoover Dam. This life rarely taken into account. The private sector cannot use it far-future cash flow does not add asset value. we should evaluating by business metrics. already make up difference return investment needed deploy PV. government infrastructure development or direct purchases. Thus question is: Does usually unevaluated aspect at predictably low costs further motivate governments more PV, sooner?
