Summary. The authors report six cases of toe-nail onyxis due to an unusual yeast species, Candida ciferrii. For half these cases, direct microscopical examination showed the presence blastospores and pseudo-to-true mycelium, demonstrating parasitic transition fungus. In light literature their own experience, suggest that C. ciferrii could be etiological agent onychomycosis, particularly for elderly patients with extensive trophic disorders.
