摘要: This is a report of the initial (prevalence) screening for lung cancer in population 10.040 cigarette-smoking men 45 yr age and older, recruited from metropolitan New York. All had posteroanterior lateral chest roentgenograms, approximately half men, randomly chosen, also sputum cytology (dual screen). Fifty-three confirmed cancers were found; 22 (40%) AJCC Stage I, with 85% survival 5 after resection, whereas only 2 remaining II to III lived longer than 3 yr. In dual screen group, which detection techniques could be compared, 6 I detected by radiology alone, 7 1 both techniques. cases alone squamous carcinomas, two thirds those adenocarcinoma.
