摘要: Emergence of increased antimicrobial resistance Shigella species is a global challenge, particularly in developing countries where misuse agents occurs. There no published data the study area on prevalence and susceptibility patterns among acute diarrheal patients. This was therefore, under taken to fill this gap. Using cross sectional method, stool specimens were collected from 216 patients with diarrhea at Mekelle Hospital August November 2014. Standard bacteriological methods used isolate determine isolates, analyzed using SPSS version 20. Out total participants, isolated 15 (6.9 %) participants. Ten (66.7 %) positive isolates children <15 years (p = 0.005). Latrine availability, source drinking water hand washing habits before meal statistically significant shigellosis (p < 0.05). Isolates showed 100, 86.7 66.7 % amoxicillin, amoxicillin cotrimoxazole respectively. Low levels observed for norfloxacin ciprofloxacin (6.7 % each). Overall, 80 % multidrug resistance. highly resistant cotrimoxazole. However, effective. Antibiotic surveillance needed prevent further emergence drug strains. More has be done availability latrine, supply safe community reduce disease burden.
