摘要: Abstract Aims Heart failure (HF) is associated with changes in energy metabolism of the heart, as well extra-cardiac organs such skeletal muscles. Cardiac cachexia a common complication and poor prognosis. Branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) reportedly improve sarcopenia cancer cachexia. We tested hypothesis that BCAA ameliorates HF cardiac Main methods used Dahl salt-sensitive (DS) rats fed high-salt diet model HF. DS low-salt were control. administered drinking water from 11 weeks age, when hypertrophy was established but function preserved. Survival monitored, animals sacrificed at 21 weeks age analyzed. Key findings In rats, treatment decreased heart rate, preserved function, prolonged survival. also prevented body weight loss, preservation muscle weight. Moreover, gene expression related to mitochondrial biogenesis increased Significance survival rats. The genes involved muscles by BCAA.
