The K giant stars from the LAMOST survey data I: identification, metallicity, and distance

摘要: We present a support vector machine classifier to identify the K giant stars from LAMOST survey directly using their spectral line features. The completeness of identification is about 75% for tests based on stellar parameters. contamination in identified sample lower than 2.5%. Applying classification method 2 million spectra observed during pilot and first year survey, we select 298,036 candidates. metallicities are also estimated with uncertainty $0.13\sim0.29$\,dex equivalent widths Mg$_{\rm b}$ iron lines. A Bayesian then developed estimate posterior probability distance stars, metallicity 2MASS photometry. synthetic isochrone-based estimates have been calibrated 7 globular clusters wide range metallicities. modulus at $K=11$\,mag, which median brightness sample, 0.6\,mag, corresponding $\sim30$% distance. As scientific verification case, trailing arm Sagittarius stream clearly selected sample. Moreover, 80\,kpc Sun, use our confirm detection members near apo-center tail. These rediscoveries features illustrate potential detecting substructures halo Milky Way.
