摘要: Many bird species rely on visual cues for mate choice, including those provided by body size or the of a appendage. Mate choice based may lead to size-assortative mating, which in turn have consequences reproductive performance. In this study, we examined whether influences decisions Cory's Shearwater Calonectris borealis ,a seabird with nocturnal activity land. We found evidence negative assortative mating bill morphology (nostril height and length), but no according mass, tarsus length, wing length. addition, investigated influence assor- tative individual size-related traits performance, i.e., laying date breeding success. that success were not correlated extent assortatively breeders did lay earlier more likely breed successfully. However, heavier females (body mass measured during pre-laying) laid later season. discuss these results light possible effects acoustic signals for- aging strategies pattern. Furthermore, suggest some female attributes be crucial Shearwaters.
