Comparative chemical composition of leaves of some antidiabetic medicinal plants: Azadirachta indica, Vernonia amygdalina and Gongronema latifolium

摘要: As part of an investigation into the antidiabetic mechanism some indigenous medicinal plants, proximate, vitamins and mineral elements phytochemical compositions Azadirachta indica, Vernonia amygdalina Gongronema latifolium were quantitatively determined using standard methods compared. Of 3 plants G. had highest (p<0.05) crude protein fat contents but lowest in fibre composition, whereas A. indica with content composition. Fat ash V. . Also showed composition A, E niacin compared to amygdalina. have higher vitamin C riboflavin Flavonoids, saponins polyphenols significantly predominant relative , alkaloids HCN However, tannins among three plants. There appear be a complement biochemicals leaves these which may account for reported hypoglycemic antihyyperglycemic action.
