摘要: THE SEQUENCE of events occurring during cellular differentiation may be described and, to some degree, understood in terms manifest structural changes which the individual cell undergoes its ontogeny. Yet little is known concerning biochemical processes plant tissues are fundamentally related these ontogenetic changes. Isolated pea root tips, cultured dark a sterile synthetic nutrient medium, grow reproducible manner, showing usual patterns tissue differentiation. Inhibition elongation roots produced by variety metabolic inhibitors act through their effect on essential for normal growth. This paper describes effects three inhibitors, indole-3-acetic acid, iodoacetic and 2,4-dinitrophenol primary vascular isolated have been subjected each case reagent concentrations causing approximately 90 per cent inhibition elongation. The purpose such study attempt relate anatomical stages Attempts made several studies inhibited As early as 1893 Pfeffer reported apparent acceleration acropetal elements number plants when was mechanically plaster Paris encasement root. Using Vicia faba grown solid gypsum, found pitted vessel within 1 mm. from tip at end 15 days, compared 25-35 uninhibited roots. Pfeffer's finding has substantiated numerous subsequent workers (Nathansohn, 1898) . More recently Kojima (1931, 1933), also using technique Pfeffer, that mechanical pressure inhibits division 16 -hr. after beginning treatment. In roots, xylem were an average distance 1.4 apex one week, while control first 13.7 (1931) pointed out position, appeared show accelerated cells, but age actually hindered. He concluded
