摘要: The Missouri Department of Conservation detected high organochlorine levels in tissues fish from the Mississippi River south Saint Louis. Chlordane, which is both a carcinogen and an endocrine disrupter, reached 2960 μg/kg fillets shovelnose sturgeon, Scaphirhynchus platyorynchus, 1926 their roe, wet weight basis. Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) p,p′-dichlorodiphenyldichloroethylene (DDE) roe have 5810 780 μg/kg, respectively. purpose this study was to determine if disrupters carcinogens are potential cause significantly diminished reproduction capacity population declines endangered pallid albus. Twenty-four surrogate sturgeons were sampled north Louis where contaminant lower compared with 17 high. Liver gonad formalin-fixed, histologically processed examined. Neoplasms not found. principal finding that testes two seven downstream male contained ovigerous lamellae, addition mature sperm. Since gonochoristic intersexes rare unusual, occurrence intersex 29% sturgeon examined contaminated chlordane other chemicals raise concern for human health, species biodiversity preservation waterway quality. These findings, however, need be corroborated by expanded studies higher sample size.
