摘要: Following the Mesozoic phases of crustal extension region between Norway and Greenland became relatively quiet, with regional subsidence dominating in a large basinal area which extended into North Sea Barents Sea. At about Palaeocene/Eocene time mid-Atlantic rift progressed northward sea-floor spreading started along newly formed plate boundary. The initiation Cenozoic rifting subsequent drifting phase has fundamentally defined structural depositional framework present day margin off western Svalbard. Particularly important observations are: existence marginal highs apparently associated one or several episodes volcanic activity; remarkably different amounts subsidence, respect to both time; effects mid-Oligocene change relative motion on structures; two-stage evolution its shear movements.
