摘要: The Insulin Resistance Atherosclerosis Study (IRAS) is the first epidemiologic study designed to assess relationships between insulin resistance, insulinemia, glycemia, other components of resistance syndrome, and prevalent cardiovascular disease (CVD) in a large multiethnic cohort. Over 1600 men women were recruited from four geographic areas represent range glucose tolerance (normal, impaired, diabetic) ethnicity (hispanic, non-Hispanic white, African-American). was assessed directly using frequently sampled intravenous test with minimal model analysis. Intimal-medial carotid artery wall thickness, an indicator atherosclerosis, measured B-mode ultrasonography. Prevalent CVD by questionnaire resting electrocardiography. This report describes design provides recruitment results. Forthcoming cross-sectional analyses will help disentangle association CVD, apart concomitant hyperinsulinemia related risk factors.
