摘要: Abstract Tupelo honey is derived from the nectar of Ogeechee tupelo (Nyssa ogeche) trees growing in northwest Florida and southern Georgia. Here we use N. ogeche tree rings to reconstruct yield place current decline since mid-1980s a historical context identify climatic hydrologic conditions conducive optimal yields. We sampled two sites on banks Apalachicola River using standard dendrochronological methods developed master chronology 1850 2009. A two-staged process was used for reconstruction Monte Carlo analysis examine natural range variability. The passed all validation tests extended record 140 years. found that severe, containing lowest-yield years (1997 2007) record. However, longer duration low-yield period occurred 1877 1898. relationship between radial growth July river flow has shifted suggesting environmental changes may be responsible yield. Our results demonstrate utility employing tree-rings extend crop records allow broader understanding variations inherent agriculture.
