摘要: The United States has a trust responsibility to provide services American Indians and Alaska Native (AI/AN) persons. However, long-standing history of underfunding the Indian Health Service (IHS) led significant challenges in providing services.Twentieth century laws, including Snyder Act, Transfer Self-Determination Education Assistance Care Improvement Act (IHCIA) have had an effect on way health are provided. IHCIA was reauthorized as part Patient Protection Affordable (ACA). Several provisions ACA allow for potential improvements access AI/AN populations described herein.Although policy developments been promising, IHS must be resolved ensure improved health.
