摘要: This paper examines the nature and causes of September 2004 hazardous flood that affected dry drought prone southwestern region Bangladesh. It also human perception this new hazard their methods adjustments to its negative impacts. Field research for study includes personal interviews 453 victim families living in four thanas (lowest administrative units) Jessore Satkhira districts Findings suggest all respondents viewed event as a natural hazard, which has caused severe damage standing crops, fish ponds, permanent trees homesteads, deteriorated health sanitation conditions. Its long-term impacts on farming, soil quality degradation, well changing land use/land coverage are noteworthy but yet be adequately explored.
