Economic Assessment of Dolphin Depredation Damages and Pinger Use in Artisanal Fisheries in the Archipelago of Egadi Islands (Sicily)

摘要: In this study, an economic analysis of the effect pingers as "anti-depredation" devices on artisanal fisheries and dolphin depredation was performed. By comparing data gross Profit Per Unit Effort (PPUE) over 29 fishing days for two identical nets (900-m long, one equipped with pingers, other did not have pingers), assessed following: different production trends (Advantage Production, AP) Return Of Investment (ROI) purchase pingers. Considering difference in PPUE values nets, frequency interaction, effort activities, one-year losses (ED) due to depredation. Moreover, damage caused by destroyed area nets. The AP use pinger net respect control is 25.7 Euros each 50 m net. ROI initial investment (4 = 800 Euro) days, ED 1400 Euros. damages suffered were 33 m2 (90 Euros) 22 (91 Euros), respectively. results demonstrates that critical factors determine success technology could be represented return incentives provided European Fisheries Fund (EFF).
