摘要: Songs are distinct, patterned sounds produced by a variety of animals including baleen whales. Fin whale songs, which consist short pulses repeated at regular interpulse intervals (IPIs), have been suggested as tool to distinguish populations. songs were analyzed from data collected 2000–2012 in Southern California and 2004–2010 the Gulf using autonomous acoustic recorders. IPIs measured for each identifiable song sequence during two random days month with recordings. Four distinct types identified: long doublet, triplet, triplet. Long doublets dominant California, while triplets California. An abrupt change type occurred both areas monitoring period. We argue that is unique population these changes represent shift primary area. Occasional temporal spatial overlap indicated some exchange or visitation among whales appear synchronize gradually modify rhythm over time scales. A better understanding evolutionary ecological importance fin populations needed.
