摘要: Abstract Traditional stress-corrosion tests involving smooth specimens are rapidly being replaced by derived from fracture mechanics. Although the opinion is widely held that cracking (scc) dependent upon an applied crack-tip stress-intensity factor, it can be argued dependency with net-section stresses. Wedge-force loading a center cracked sheet specimen provides unique resolution of question. In this system, crack extension causes decreasing factor at tip, while same time, stresses increase. Therefore, when growth arrests in specimen, on proven. The arrest found to agree remarkably well K scc values determined more conventional techniques wherein initiation thresholds established multiple tests. Crack rate data important establishment inspection intervals structure also obtained. Finally, technique affords considerable economy test time and material costs studies.
