摘要: BACKGROUND Ovarian cancer has the highest mortality rate of all gynecologic malignancies, and most women present with advanced-stage disease. The current investigation was performed to determine efficacy annual transvaginal sonography (TVS) as a screening method for ovarian cancer. METHODS Annual TVS on 25,327 from 1987 2005. Asymptomatic aged ≥50 years ≥25 who had family history were eligible participation in this trial. RESULTS Among 364 patients (1.4%) persisting tumor underwent exploratory laparoscopy or laparotomy removal, 35 primary invasive cancers, 9 serous tumors low malignant potential, 7 cancers metastatic ovary detected. Stage distribution follows: 28 stage I disease, 8 II III Four died 2 other causes, 38 alive well 0.5 15.8 after diagnosis (mean, 5.3 years). Nine developed within 12 months negative screen (false-negative results), 3 these sensitivity 85.0%, specificity 98.7%, positive predictive value 14.01%, 99.9%. After 107,276 years, there have been deaths annually screened population among noncompliant. Excluding nonepithelial borderline survival 89.9% ± 10.1% at 77.2% 22.8% 5 years. CONCLUSIONS TVS screening, when it annually, associated decrease disease detection case-specific mortality, but not effective detecting normal volume. Cancer 2007; © 2007 American Society.
