Constructions of sex and intimacy after cancer: Q methodology study of people with cancer, their partners, and health professionals

摘要: Background: The increasing number of individuals living with cancer has led to a focus on the quality life survivors, and their families. Sexual wellbeing is central component life, growing body research demonstrating association between changes sexuality intimacy. However, little known about patient professional understanding post-cancer. This study was designed explore complex perspectives that people personal experience hold in context cancer. Methods: An interview using Q methodology conducted 44 cancer, 35 partners person 37 health professionals working oncology. Participants were asked rank-order 56 statements intimacy after comment rankings subsequent semi-structured interview. A by-person factor analysis performed factors extracted according centroid method varimax rotation. Results: three-factor solution provided best conceptual fit for regarding Factor 1, entitled “communication – dispelling myths sex intimacy” positions communication as acceptance range satisfying sexual intimate practices 2, “valuing across journey,” centres theme normalizing through renegotiation intimacy: development alternative practices. 3, “intimacy beyond sex,” presents view even though may not be wanted, desired, or possible following relationship satisfaction are achieved non-genital Conclusions: demonstrated complexity post which practical implications those care survivorship. Therapists other can play an important role ameliorating concerns surrounding by opening facilitating discussion amongst couples affected well providing information normalizes
