摘要: The essential oil of clove has a wide range pharmacological and biological activities is widely used in the medicine, fragrance flavoring industries. In this work, 22 components obtained from buds were identified. Eugenol was major component (76.23%). exhibited strong antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 with minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) 0.625 mg/mL, effects depended on its action time. Kill-time assays also confirmed had significant effect growth rate surviving S. aureus. We hypothesized that may interact cell wall membrane first. On one hand it destroys membranes, next causing losses vital intracellular materials, which finally result bacterial death. Besides, penetrates to cytoplasmic or enters inside after destruction structure, then inhibits normal synthesis DNA proteins are required for growth. These results suggested inhibition be at molecular level rather than only physical damage.
