Potential of mechanical metamaterials to induce their own global rotational motion

摘要: The potential of several classes mechanical metamaterials to induce their own overall rotational motion through the individual rotation subunits is examined. Using a theoretical approach, we confirm that for various rotating rigid unit systems, if by design sum angular momentum in different directions made be unequal, then system will experience an rotation, extent which may controlled careful choice geometric parameters defining these systems. This phenomenon self-induced also confirmed experimentally. Furthermore, discuss how systems can designed special way so as permit extended rotations allows them overcome lockage and relevance this concept applications ranging from satellites spacecraft telescopes employed space.
