Health Service Utilization and Costs of Depressive Symptoms in Late Life - A Systematic Review

摘要: Objective: The objective of the study is to systematically analyze and summarize research literature regarding health service use costs depressive symptoms in late life. Design: Relevant articles were identified by searching databases MEDLINE, Web Science, PSYNDEXplus, PsycINFO, Cochrane Library. Keywords ‘depression’ or ‘depressive*’, and ‘cost’ ‘economic burden’ ‘utilization’ ‘use’ ‘old age’ ‘elderly’. Studies based on representative samples elderly individuals aged 55 years older included. Results: studies found, 34 determined service utilization, 10 studies reported costs, 11 reported both. utilization showed homogeneously that elderly individuals have an increased use compared non-depressive, a one-third increase outpatient, inpatient, total healthcare individuals. majority antidepressant (AD) between 20 45% depressive individuals. Mean annual for AD ranged from 108 305 US$ PPP (purchasing power parities). Increased are only small proportion related depression treatment. Conclusions: Depressive life lead high economic burden for nations which not explained symptom Strategies improvement diagnostic validity and treatment success may effect burden societies.
