摘要: New technologies and policies have improved the efficiency of heavy-duty vehicles operating in United States. These improvements reduce transportation costs ($/mile) for firms raise questions about firm-level responses to these lower costs. Of particular concern are potential rebound effects on energy consumption that would partially offset benefits new aim achieve. Although recent quantitative research has suggested U.S. trucking sector negligible, very little been done “ground-truth” results through discussions with sector. Based interview eight firms, this paper discusses key factors influence decision making within policy regimes. In particular, we focus elements effect elasticity travel activity respect fuel efficiency. We find both direct indirect may be small reasons discussed paper. help validate empirical studies point an inelastic relationship between vehicle miles traveled expand our understanding sector, thereby providing important information impact analysis future development.
