摘要: Abstract The nature, evolution, and degree of deformation microfracture damage around beneath Vickers contacts in monophase Ti 3 SiC 2 (312) are studied. 312 material exhibits a pronounced shear during indentation, indicating microscale plasticity which can be associated with infragrain multiple basal-plane slip between microlamellae, intergrain sliding, lamellae or grain pushout, microfailures at the ends constrained shear-slips. No contact-induced cracks observed micro-damage is widely distributed within shear-compression zone below contacts. process stochastic results from complex interplay statistical variation both relative size crystallographic orientation individual grains. ability to absorb energy loading system distribute somewhat akin that ceramics either coarse-grained heterogeneous microstructures, perhaps geological structures.
