摘要: Rail grinding has been employed since the 1980s in maintaining optimal rail profile as well elimination of surface defects such corrugations and head-checks. Likewise, wheel sets also require re- turning to remove restore desired profile. The influence roughness wheel/rail contact a concern for railway owners introduction maintenance strategy. Presently, there are no scientifically derived guidelines regarding topographies ground rails re-turned wheels. There is thus need establish defined new surfaces on wheels order minimize cost/time improve performance. This thesis concerns running-in behaviour, wear, friction resultant damage. results presented this based both field measurements experimental simulations laboratory. A two-disc rolling/sliding test machine used work simulate contact. specimens were manufactured from actual parts. maching/finishing parameters chosen way obtain different specimens. Design Experiment approach (DOE) conduct experiments analyse results. Results obtained show that newly changes rapidly during initial stages following grinding. It was concluded considerable variation depending which workshop performed operation. Experimental certain material pairs do significant difference tribological behaviour tests run dry conditions those with water lubrication. (A). http://epubl.ltu.se/1402-1757/2007/37/LTU-LIC-0737-SE
