摘要: To assess the association between breast-feeding and risk of microbiologically confirmed or clinically presumptive shigellosis, authors performed a case-control analysis Bangladeshi children younger than 3 years age who were followed up for 1 month after exposure to Shigella in their residential neighborhoods. Two hundred sixty-nine cases with culture-confirmed shigellosis (n = 119) (culture-negative dysentery, n 150) compared 819 controls without diarrhea other invasive diarrheal illnesses. The odds ratio relating adjusted potentially confounding variables, was 0.48 (95% confidence interval 0.32 0.72; P less .001), suggesting substantial protective effect. decreased but still significant during third year life; appeared be directly related degree stunting; equivalent shigellosis. Notably, remained against episodes due which resistant at least one antibiotics customarily used treatment (age-adjusted 0.40; 95% 0.22 0.74; .01). These data suggest that confers high level protection throughout first life, especially among nutritionally compromised children, thereby underscore importance promotion as central component control programs developed settings.
