摘要: Since the 1950s, Old North St. Louis neighborhood in Louis, Missouri, has suffered population loss and disinvestment due to failed urban renewal initiatives, construction of a new interstate highway that bisected community, suburbanization. Under auspices U.S. Housing Urban Development Community Outreach Partnership Center grant, Public Policy Research at University Missouri-St. partnered with community assist it attaining economic growth, social stability, cultural identity through archaeological research interpretation. Building off existing historic preservation this partnership employed “true acts inclusion” developing major goals “questions count.” Archaeological work conjunction oral histories archival was used strengthen sense development K-12 educational programming, local museum, video documentary, published history, website, an bike trail. These products provided tools attract residents, investors, visitors served as glue, connecting people place. The project advances concept public archaeology by demonstrating how interpretation can be aligned specific revitalization goals.
