摘要: OBJECTIVES The Endangered collared brown lemur (Eulemur collaris) is the largest primate living in littoral forest of southeastern Madagascar, a top priority habitat for biodiversity conservation on island. Because this key seed-disperser, an evaluation structure and connectivity populations surviving fragments urgently needed to guide plans. MATERIALS AND METHODS Genetic variability at autosomal microsatellites mitochondrial DNA was investigated total 49 lemurs sampled by non-invasive methods three nearby lowland humid forest. RESULTS overall genetic diversity E. collaris coastal region Madagascar lower than other populations, as well species. population appears highly structured, with less variable more inbred groups inhabiting compared inland area. Major barriers gene flow were identified isolating from each DISCUSSION Medium long-term drift scarce scenario that best explains current distribution. Habitat discontinuities such rivers grassland between played major role structuring population. A common history size contraction pointed out several estimators, indicating possible ecological crisis triggered around 1,300 years ago. adoption strategies aimed facilitating growth crucial delay further loss diversity.
