摘要: Objective To evaluate the effect of a diabetes awareness campaign on incidence diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) at first presentation type 1 in children (0–18 yr). Methods This study was controlled population intervention with 2-yr baseline period and period. Data were collected all presenting their initial diagnosis [pH, bicarbonate, base excess, blood glucose level (BGL), urea, creatinine] Gosford, Newcastle, Sydney (Sydney Children's Hospital Royal North Shore Hospital). During period, education occurred region (Gosford). Child care centers, schools, doctor's offices offered posters about symptoms diabetes. Doctor's given ketone testing equipment. The control regions (Newcastle Sydney) did not receive any educational or test DKA defined as pH < 7.3 bicarbonate 15 mmol/L. Results In proportion decreased from 37.5% (15/40) during to 13.8% (4/29) (p < 0.03). There no significant change same time periods, 37.4% (46/123) 38.6% (49/127), respectively. In average BGL 27.5 mmol/L 21.2 (p < 0.01). Conclusion During campaign, rate by 64%.
