摘要: BACKGROUND Hair growth parameters have been studied mostly in caucasian hair, whereas few data on African hair reported the literature. OBJECTIVES To evaluate characteristics of volunteers born Africa. METHODS Thirty-eight young adults (19 women, 19 men, mean +/- SD age 27 10 years), native central and western Africa, took part study. Phototrichograms were performed order to record three growth: density, telogen percentage rate growth. For each volunteer, regions scalp, namely vertex, temporal occipital areas, assessed. RESULTS density varied from 90 290 hairs cm(-2), with higher counts vertex. No significant difference between men women was recorded. Telogen showed wide variations, 2 46%, levels area men. The fluctuated 150 363 microm day(-1) no related either gender or scalp region. These compared those previously obtained comparable age, differences two ethnic groups all studied. lower than that caucasians (mean 190 40 227 55 respectively). grew at a much slower 256 44 vs. 396 day(-1)), frequently 18 9% 14 11%). CONCLUSIONS This study demonstrated parameters, which might suggest trend towards increased loss Africans, even though it contrasts incidence development alopecia Africans.
