摘要: The development of second-generation rotavirus vaccines requires knowledge baseline incidence rates for intussusception in infants prior to vaccine introduction. To obtain such estimates we reviewed clinical records a hospital that served as the major provider paediatric beds local community northern part Japan. During 25-year period (1978-2002), there were 91 hospitalizations due radiologically confirmed children <5 years age, which 45% <1 year age. Assuming all with area had been admitted this hospital, an average 185 and 78 per 100000 person-years old 5 respectively. There was period-to-period variability no long-term secular trend intussusception. rate Japan among highest thus far reported, providing further evidence geographic variability.
