摘要: In situ measurements of [OH], [HO_2] (square brackets denote species concentrations), and other chemical were made in the tropical upper troposphere (TUT). [OH] showed a robust correlation with solar zenith angle. Beyond this dependence, however, did not correlate to its primary source, product [O_3] [H_2O] ([O_3]•[H_2O]), or sink [NO_y]. This suggests that is heavily buffered TUT. One important exception result found regions very low [O_3], [NO], Under these conditions, highly suppressed, pointing critical role NO sustaining OH TUT possibility over western Pacific warm pool due strong marine convections bringing NO-poor air contrast [HO_x] ([OH] + [HO_2]) correlated reasonably well [O_3]•[H_2O]/[NO_y], suggesting [O_3]•[H_2O] [NO_y] are significant source sink, respectively, [HO_x].
