Stress tolerance in a yeast sterol auxotroph: role of ergosterol, heat shock proteins and trehalose.

摘要: The role of ergosterol in yeast stress tolerance, together with heat shock proteins (hsps) and trehalose, was examined a sterol auxotrophic mutant Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Ergosterol levels paralleled viability data, cells containing higher the exhibiting greater tolerances to ethanol. Although synthesised hsps accumulated trehalose upon same as wild-type cells, these parameters did not relate tolerance. These results indicate that tolerance is independent or trehalose.
