摘要: Abstract High prevalence of multidrug-resistant microorganisms in the etiologic structure different infectious processes significantly decreases effectiveness treatment and enhances probability an unfavorable outcome from infection. Combinations between antibiotics other antimicrobial agents represent one most promising approaches for combating bacteria. A high therapeutic potential exists combinations natural substances with complex mechanisms action multiple healing properties, such as plant essential oils. The purpose present chapter is to review published studies on antibiotic-essential oil discuss prospects future studies. In general, many have shown oils act synergistically vitro. main proposed mechanism this beneficial effect through inhibition efflux pumps by some oils, which restores activity antibiotic. Future efforts should be directed into further against bacteria, emphasis understanding produced effect. types agents, bacteriophages, nanoparticles, quorum-sensing inhibitors, require greater attention are worthy investigations.
