摘要: Aims  The aim of this paper is to provide a critical overview the development and current status gambling in Australia. Methods  examines history Australia with particular focus on prevalence problem community developments policy treatment services. Results  highlights contradictory role State governments as both providers services well agents for liberalization gambling. It also shows how notion ‘addiction’ conceptualized Australian research services, including preference harm-based public health approaches. Such perspectives view having multiple pathways determinants that extend beyond pathology individuals. Conclusions  Gambling provides curious paradox. Highly liberalized government policies allow proliferation high intensity coexist extensive policy, regulation designed address negative impact community.
