Deaths associated with liposuction: case reports and review of the literature.

摘要: Tumescent liposuction is a common cosmetic procedure that performed as an outpatient service in physician's offices and largely believed to be safe. The protuberant areas of the body containing undesirable fat deposits are injected with normal saline lidocaine epinephrine for pain control hemostasis, waterlogged cells suctioned out via cannula through small incision. We recently encountered three cases which deaths were attributed this procedure. Two showed embolization lung one died from fluid overload. osmium tetroxide post-fixed sections emboli interstitial capillaries arterioles. reviewed recent literature found pulmonary thromboemboli, embolization, overload, intoxication at autopsy many cases. Forensic pathologists responsible determining cause manner death should become familiar postmortem findings risks therapy communicate them their clinical colleagues communities.
