摘要: Abstract Contamination of twenty endoscopes used in patients with AIDS was assessed. The suction-biopsy, air, and water channels the insertion tube were sampled after use, washing detergent, disinfection for 2 min 2% alkaline glutaraldehyde. polymerase chain reaction Southern blotting, cell cultures, antigen immunoassay to detect human immunodefiency virus (HIV). Samples also examined cytomegalovirus, adenoviruses, enteroviruses, herpes simplex virus, myxoviruses, hepatitis B surface antigen, fungi, bacteria. Seven unwashed contaminated by HIV. Commensal bacteria found all endoscopes, Candida albicans six, Staphylococcus aureus five, Pseudomonas aeruginosa five. Washing alone removed detectable organisms from 66 68 sites, Neisseria spp recovered two air but not disinfection. achieved a mean reduction 4·93 (95% confidence interval 3·69-6·17) colony forming units per ml.
